We have released a new version of our WordPress plugin for website translation. Version 1.1.8 improves translation speed for newly registered websites and corrects some irregularities which may have been encountered in previous releases. You can download the new release from http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gts-translation.

The main features of the new release are:

  • Fewer terms are translated immediately upon signup. Now our system only grabs the tags/taxonomies/categories for posts on the front page-not for the whole blog. This results in quicker deployment of your website in the translated languages.
  • Comments are rendered left-to-right unless WPLANG is Arabic or Hebrew.
  • The plugin is more proactive about checking validity of downloaded .mo files and removing invalid files during the cron job. By more proactive we mean that in previous releases, in some cases we would end up with a non-usable .mo (localization) file and the plugin wouldn’t care. Now we take more initiative to validate it and re-fetch it if it’s corrupt or missing.
  • Concurrently with the new release, we repaired a bug in the service at translate.gts-translation.com. Previously, when a blog’s theme showed excerpts but the post didn’t have a custom excerpt, our service was inserting empty markup (tags but no text). This caused WP to think that there was a custom excerpt because there were characters in the field (even though they didn’t display anything) and output the blank markup. In some websites, some of the text was not being translated on the home page. Now this problem has been solved and all home page text should be translated.

We have recently added support for more languages using the Microsoft API. The plugin now supports over 30 languages. Several hundred WordPress websites are using our plugin and new users are joining us each day.

Our vision is to provide an efficient, automated solution for internationalization of blogs and websites. To develop a solution which will be capable of producing high quality translated content at a very low cost. Millions of pages are being published, many of them with valuable content. Thousands of newspapers and publications are publishing online. Most of that content remains local due to the language barrier and is not accessible by large audiences. We are working to make the multilingual web a reality. Become a part of it.

Since we launched the GTS Translation WordPress plugin last September, it has been downloaded nearly 5,000 times and installed in several hundred blogs. One of the things we are pleased to see is that clients are using our software to create their own translation communities for crowdsourcing their website translation.

For the benefit of anyone who would like a basic tutorial on how to set up your own translation community using our plugin, we have prepared a YouTube video with a step-by-step.

Here are some of the websites who have used the GTS Translation plugin to create their own community for post-editing their translated website content.

If you have any questions regarding the GTS Translation plugin, send an email to info at gts-translation.com.

We released a new version of our GTS website translation plugin for WordPress: Version 1.1.7. You can download the software by going to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gts-translation.

Virtual Host Feature Explained

Quite a few people have asked us how to setup the Virtual Host feature. So we have provided detailed instructions of this feature on our WordPress plugin Notes page. This feature allows users to host translated versions of their WordPress website/blog on a Top Level Domain (TLD) or a subdomain.

New Languages

We are now up to 20 languages. Within the next few weeks we will add more languages to bring the total up to over 30. The new languages are provided via the Microsoft Translator API. If you are already using the GTS Plugin, check your WP GTS Settings panel for new languages and simply check the language boxes to add  new languages to your website or blog.

We hope you are getting good use out of our plugin. We are working on new features as we speak so stay tuned for further information.

The latest release of the GTS Translation plugin (version 1.1.6) adds support of four new languages, bringing the total number of languages to 12: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Portuguese, Swedish, Hebrew and Finnish.

Our WordPress plugin is guaranteed to drive more international traffic to your site by providing high quality translation, and SEO of your translated content. Some of our customers have seen an increase of over 100% in traffic as a direct result of installing the plugin. To download the plugin, go to http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/gts-translation/

If you already have a previous release of the GTS Translation plugin you can upgrade to the new version from your WP Admin panel. Go to GTS Settings and check the languages you would like to add.

More new languages coming soon!

We will be adding more languages in the next weeks so please check your GTS settings panel in WordPress. We will also announce the new languages on this blog and on Twitter.

Localization Settings

This is a new GTS admin panel which displays the WordPress localization settings. The plugin downloads .mo files from the official translation subversion repository.  Those files localize content produced by WP (e.g. the headings over the widgets like “Tags”, “Search”, etc.).  That page lets you see which version of the .mo file is in use because not every WP version has an official release in every language (or there’s a lag).

Bug Fixed

Please note that there was a bug in Version 1.1.5: spaces were not inserted after periods in Russian and Portuguese. Customers who installed the version 1.1.6 of the plugin on April 14 will have seen the same issue in Swedish and Finnish. That was corrected in version 1.1.6.

April 6, 2011. Today we released version 1.1.5 of our translation plugin for WordPress, adding support for Japanese and Portuguese. This brings the total number of languages to 7. The new languages use the Microsoft Translator API.

Here are some customer testimonials which prove how our solution can help drive more traffic to a blog and grow its readership.

I installed this plugin on my new blog the other week. It seems to work well, and I have definitely been getting more international traffic than expected. Thanks!

I adore your plugin – I write a very busy political web site that covers Europe, you have no idea how many hits I get simply because people can read in their native language, and it shows up in Google searches in their native language too.
We are using your plugin and our traffic from Italy, France, and Spain is almost outranking the number of English visitors.
