The Top 10 blogging genre has become very popular in 2010. So I am going to go with the top 10 list of Internet directories of translators/translation agencies. These directories have searchable databases with thousands of translators and translation agencies. They are very helpful when you need to find a translator or translation company. Some of these portals offer an online marketplace that allows you to post translation jobs.

If you know of any other good translation directories, please write about them in the Comments area.

1. PROZ.com. It has tons of free language resources, an excellent marketplace for translation jobs, group buying with price discounts on translation software tools. An excellent site. Due to its size, however, you may get responses from poor, unqualified or unreliable translators. And the site uses a centralized approach which makes it hard to contact people directly.

2. Translators Cafe. This directory seems to attract highly proficient and specialized translators. Information about translators is presented clearly and the site makes in easy to contact people.

3.  translationdirectory.com. This portal has a wealth of articles and links to good translation resources. They have an email list that posts translation jobs.

4. Gotranslators.com. A good searchable database.

5. American Translators Association.  The ATA certification program is probably the most recognized and accepted worldwide. You can search their database for translators by language pair and area of specialization. The site lists the accreditation status of each translator.

6. Traduguide.com

7. Translatorsbase.com

8. aquarius.net. I am listing this site even though it is a huge disappointment to me. They were the first one around and had the first online marketplace. But they did not stay competitive and were blown away by PROZ years ago. It goes to show that being first is not enough.

9. Japanese Association of Translators. Search for Japanese translators, English to Japanese, Japanese to English and other related language pairs.

10. Social Networks, LinkedIn and Twitter. LinkedIn is fast becoming THE best directory for finding translators. It has hundreds of translation groups and thousands of translators have LinkedIn profiles. Many translators are also on Twitter. You can search these networks and find translators for your language tasks.

GTS has a database of translators and if are a translator you can sign-up to receive job offers when relevant. We also have a Twitter job feed.
