Another online translation business has been launched on 2.1.2010: www.TranslateThisNow.com
See PR at http://ca.sys-con.com/node/1269058

All of these new online businesses indicate that there is a lot of potential and money in online translation services.

Simon: "I translate there legal contracts and technical documents." - not exactly an endorsement for the service, if that's your level of grammar!

viaLanguage's (OLS) Online Language Service has been in operation for nearly six years. It efficiently services millions of dollars worth of document and file translation business. The other part of the business handles more complicated web and software localization that does not lend its well to an online, quick-turn service. Each has its role.

Great post!

I think that these online, fast-turnaround translation companies are terrific for our business. The reality is that not every client needs a high-quality translation on every assignment. But most of the time, quality is absolutely non-negotiable and must, in fact, be proven.

It actually helps us if our clients use the services of Tolingo, Mygengo, OneHourTranslation, et al. for their small, one-off, quickie translation needs. It frees us up to focus on what we're good at.

And I am not worried about our clients wanting to have their next regulatory submission or 20-language labeling project handled by one of these companies - at least they won't do it twice :-)

All of this is Jose Henrique Lamensdorf has called this the "x market" of translation (we wrote about this in our blog recently).

Rather than signaling the beginning of the "one-hour photomart" stage for all translation companies, I believe that these companies will help bring more specialization and overall quality to our industry. As an industry, we should be working on defining different service levels, in response to differing client requirements.

Thanks 'Simon' for your comment. Of course your claim would be more believable if you would use your full name and the name of the company that you work for and which orders these legal and technical translations. Written the way it is (and using an MSN email which anyone can get anonymously) your comment sounds like it was written by someone from OneHourTranslation and is not a true comment.

I actually have a positive experience with one of the translation services you have mentioned - one hour translation. I translate there legal contracts and technical documents. As a user of translation agencies as well, the big advantage - in my opinion - is the 24/7 availability of translators. I personally feel that the quality is also better than I used to get. Translation agencies used to charge me almost 3 times higher to get a same-day 1000 words translation.

I think the solution is the combination of a traditional trusted translation agancy with a professional account manager and a high speed service option for special cases.
A lot of our customers often need very fast translation just as a part of bigger projects and if you can handle it quick and simple online, it's definitly an advantage I think.
