Google has announced that it now provides translations in real-time. Using Google Translate, you can type text in the text box and it is translated into the desired language automatically with no need to press the “Translate” button. Click here to see a video presentation on the new Google Translate features.
But is this a new feature on the Internet? Hardly. Systran has been providing this feature for at least two years with its excellent SystranBox product. In fact, you can see SystranBox on our website by clicking here. Mac OS/X 10.5 (Leopard) users may also have seen this product, which can be accessed by pressing F4 on Macs which are equipped with the Leopard operating system.

There’s nothing wrong with copying ideas, just as long as there is no IP infringement involved. Everybody does it (including Google evidently). But let’s give credit where it is due to the company that first came out with the real-time translation feature. Merci Systran!
